Research

Our research program concerns the coldest matter in the universe. We use a variety of lasers, in addition to static electric and magnetic fields, to produce gases of atoms and molecules at temperatures a fraction of a degree above absolute zero (from 1 Kelvin to 1 microKelvin). At these temperatures, the wave-like nature of atoms is enhances allowing studies and applications of the exotic, quantum-mechanical nature of matter.
