Left shows a copper block being bonded to the PbSe side of the MBE and LPE grown PbSe/BaF₂/CaF₂/Si(111) structure. Right shows substrate side of laser layer after BaF₂ lift off in water. A second copper block is then bonded to the newly exposed PbSe surface. The copper blocks provide an exceptional heat sink for the PbSe laser layer.
