My name is Brian Friesen. I recently obtained a PhD in physics from the University of Oklahoma, with a focus on radiative transfer and spectroscopy in Type Ia supernovae. My thesis advisor was Eddie Baron. In May 2015 I will join the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center as a NESAP Postdoctoral Fellow.

Here is an excellent paper showing that everybody wins if you write good, clean code. Cutting corners and being sloppy may make the initial development faster, but you, your collaborators, and your students will pay dearly in terms of productivity down the road.
I use Gentoo for both work and play. You should use it too.
